A group of hormones, called prostaglandins, are known to be of importance for the onset of labour. Increased prostaglandin levels have been implicated in preterm birth. The action of these prostoglandins is dependent on which prostaglandin receptor is present within a cell. The aim of this study is to understand the role of the receptors in labour so that we are equipped with better information to determine the mechanisms of preterm labour.
