Schools across the UK will start vaccinating pupils aged 12 and 13 from this week onwards against cervical cancer with around 300,000 girls receiving the jab in England alone.
It will protect girls from a sexually transmitted virus, which can cause the cancer.
There has been a lot of confusion surrounding the vaccine and Wellbeing of Women, the only UK charity dedicated to solving the health problems that solely affect women, have dedicated a seminar at their Annual event – The WoW Show – to this controversial topic.
Speaking on the vaccine will be Professor Alison Fiander – Chair of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Wales College of Medicine, University of Cardiff.
During this 45- minute seminar Professor Fiander will be talking about how the vaccine works and why it is an important step in protecting the future health of women in the UK.
Liz Campbell, Director of Wellbeing said:
“I have a daughter myself and will be listening carefully to what Professor Fiander has to say. 1,000 women in Britain die each year from cervical cancer and the vaccine plus the NHS Cervical screening programme could save them.”
The WoW Show is the focal point of Wellbeing of Women’s Healthy Woman Campaign and will take place on Saturday 20th September between 10am and 4pm at The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists on London’s Regents Park. TV presenter and journalist Fiona Bruce - a long-term supporter of the charity, will open the show.
